Have Questions About CEREC?
- Is there a price difference between a CEREC crown and a traditional crown?
No. The cost of your dental restoration will depend not on whether it is created in-house or by a lab, but on the material used (gold, metal alloys, porcelain, ceramic, zirconia, composite resin). Dr. Duncan will discuss your case to determine whether you are a candidate for CEREC crowns and what’s best for your tooth.
- How long will I be in the chair?
The amount of time it takes for Dr. Duncan to create your custom crown depends on your sensitivity to numbing and the number of restorations required. The average time you will be in the dental chair for one CEREC crown is between 1.5 and 2 hours.
- How are the dental crowns fabricated without using a dental lab?
With our in-house CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics) milling machine, we can create a dental crown while you wait.
- Step 1: A digital wand is used to take an image of your damaged tooth.
- Step 2: These images are used to create a 3D model of your new dental crown.
- Step 3: The digital design is wirelessly transferred to a machine in the office that mills the crown out of a porcelain block.
- Step 4: The new crown is stained and glazed by Dr. Duncan and then inserted and permanently cemented to replace your damaged tooth.
- Step 5: You leave the office with your new crown. No temporaries and no repeat visits!

- How long will a CEREC crown last? A dental crown personally designed by Dr. Duncan will last longer than one created from a dental lab. With proper care and without teeth clenching or grinding, a porcelain crown will last between 10-15 years, though some may last much longer.
