Dental implants make it possible for cosmetic dentists to create healthy, attractive smiles in an innovative way, by replacing one or more missing teeth. Implants are an excellent alternative to conventional bridges and dentures. Dental implants act and look like natural teeth, and because they maintain bone mass, dental implants can help prevent additional tooth loss as well as the sunken facial appearance associated with missing teeth. Each dental implant is composed of a biocompatible titanium screw and post topped by a crown, bridge or denture. We surgically place each implant into the jawbone where it replaces the natural tooth root. In a few months, the implant securely attaches to the bone, allowing it to withstand biting and chewing forces just like a healthy, natural tooth. The most common reasons for implant therapy include replacement of one or more teeth, support of a non-removable “bridge” to replace multiple teeth, or support of a removable full or partial denture. Once the implant has been integrated with the bone (usually 3-6 months), a post is attached to the implant. We can then apply our cosmetic dentistry skills to create the permanent tooth replacement.

Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth. A full denture replaces an entire row of teeth, either on the upper gum line or the lower gum line. Partial dentures replace only missing teeth and can be configured in many ways. We help patients with both full and partial dentures on a regular basis. If you have issues related to TMJ, we can apply our training in neuromuscular dentistry to the design of your dentures, to give you a fit that places your jaw into the best position to ease your jaw disorder.Dentures replace both the missing teeth and tissues nearby that held the teeth in place. Sometimes extractions are necessary, depending on your diagnosis. One advantage of dentures is that they are removable, making for easy cleaning and adjustment. Complete dentures are made of resin and porcelain and replace all the teeth. In addition to restoring function and aesthetics to the area where teeth are missing, partial dentures keep nearby healthy teeth from moving and creating further problems. Both full and partial dentures improve chewing ability and speech. Restoring the teeth supports facial muscles, as well, so you do not begin to get a hollowed-out appearance due to the loss of teeth.
A woman turning to the camera and smiling to show how veneers can enhance your smile

Porcelain veneers are a permanent cosmetic dentistry solution for patients wanting to aesthetically enhance their smiles. A porcelain veneer is a thin, semi-translucent laminate that we, as your cosmetic dentist, design specifically for your goals. These veneers are then bonded permanently to your teeth. Porcelain veneers are the most esthetic alternative for a variety of dental conditions, including gaps or spaces between the front teeth, broken teeth, permanently stained or discolored teeth, or cracked teeth. When someone thinks of cosmetic dentistry, they usually have porcelain veneers in mind. The benefits and advantages of porcelain veneers include the speed of the procedure, which can be completed by a suitably trained cosmetic dentist in two visits. Additionally, a healthy, natural look and feeling is most easily achieved with porcelain veneers. They are robust and biocompatible.Porcelain veneers are made of the most biocompatible material you can use this close to your delicate gum tissue and the alveolar bone.

‘‘ Dr. Duncan and his staff are just outstanding. I have a lifetime fear of dentists. He explained what he was doing, and I felt no pain at all! I would highly recommend him to anyone! ’’

Teeth Whitening

Whitening is a common first step into cosmetic dentistry. There are several options for whitening, including over-the-counter products, take-home products from a dentist, or, the most effective method, laser whitening, which we perform in our office. In just one hour, laser whitening can brighten your smile dramatically. The process uses a combination of a chemical that is applied to your teeth and a laser that activates the chemical. This combination whitens teeth in a fraction of the time that take-home or over-the-counter products can.One-hour laser whitening is painless, quick, and effective. It is considered a lunchtime procedure and people come in all the time for a one-hour appointment for laser teeth whitening.

Gum Contouring

The use of lasers in cosmetic dentistry has become quite common among trained cosmetic dentists. We use lasers for many purposes, including cosmetic services, cold sore treatment, periodontal treatment, and diagnostics. For a smile to be at its best, teeth must line up evenly along the gum line, with just the right amount of gum showing. Perfecting, recontouring, and evening can all be done quickly with the precision of a laser.A laser can be used to effectively treat early and moderate periodontal disease. The laser can selectively remove diseased tissues while leaving healthy tissue untouched! The laser also can sterilize the gum pockets and remove scaling to promote healing. One of the most innovative uses of the laser is in the detection of cavities. These lasers are called Diagnodent lasers and are very accurate in diagnosing unseen cavities that may be hiding in your teeth.
A CEREC machine used to create same-day crowns at our Kennesaw, GA dental office.

Temporary crowns and second visits are now unnecessary thanks to new CEREC technology. We offer this new one-visit crown technology in our office, adding greater convenience to the process of getting a crown. The waiting time between your procedure and when you get your permanent crown is eliminated by CEREC.With CEREC, we can create a 3D digital model of the tooth restoration. This can be done for crowns, veneers, onlays and inlays. Once the digital model is completed, an on-site milling machine carves out the restoration from a block of ceramic material, creating the crown or veneer in mere minutes. The benefits for you include speed and accuracy. No longer do you have to be careful eating on a temporary crown while you wait for a laboratory to ship out your crown or restoration. Now, with CEREC, you can come in for a restoration and walk out with the job done the same day.
